PUPILS at Cwm Primary School turned curators for the afternoon when they officially opened their museum about the Second World War.

For year five the project was the culmination of weeks of dedicated work carrying out research and making models and displays for the museum as part of their topic ‘War and Peace’.

During the opening, which was held in the school hall, the curators manned their displays which they had made themselves and answered questions from parents and staff about them.

Among the exhibits were a model of a British Bleinheim bomber, a Victory Garden, an evacuee train station and a bust of the then Prime Minister Winston Churchill.

School head, Rhian Astley said: “They have been so enthusiastic and got involved in all aspects of setting up the museum, from designing the catalogue to making posters and making all the artefacts.”

“We are so proud of the children. The project required them to use maths, design and technology skills, artwork and listening and writing skills as they listened to stories from that period and then wrote their own,” she explained.
