POLICE were called to a corner shop in Maesglas on Monday after a scuffle broke out at around 2.30pm.
Waheed Rehman, who works at AJS Stores on Cardiff Road, said the trouble had started when a customer who was banned had tried to come inside and been asked to leave the shop.
“It’s an ongoing thing,” he said. “He was banned for a long time but they always try to come inside. Today he tried three times. We told him, you can’t come inside because you’re already banned. During the talk he became aggressive. The guy who was working was bleeding from the nose. Other customers supported him. Police were called. CCTV recorded everything.”
The footage showed someone being pushed near the counter of the shop, next to the magazine rack.
Mr Rehman said shoplifting was a worry for the proprietors, with people often standing outside and trying to come in to get to get items such as scratchcards.
The victim was taken to the city’s Royal Gwent Hospital with a facial injury, police said. A Gwent Police spokeswoman added they were still looking for the offender and asked anyone with information to phone 101 quoting log number 239 26/05/14.
