STAFF at a Cwmbran opticians will be supporting two of their colleagues who are set to do a solo sky dive in aid of Velindre Cancer Centre.

Dispensing assistant Josh Double and laboratory manager Nathan Meehan, who work at the Cwmbran Specsavers store, are aiming to complete 10,000ft solo jumps in June.

The pair have been raising funds over the past few months through sponsorship and donations made in store, and have set themselves a target of raising £1,200 for the Cardiff-based cancer care charity.

Store director Rhys Williams said: “The team here are really keen to support both Josh and Nathan. It is truly a remarkable challenge they have set themselves.

“It is one thing to do a tandem sky dive with an instructor but it is something else to do a solo sky dive.

“All of the store staff are helping the guys to raise as much money as possible. The guys are well on their way to reaching their target, but we would like to invite the local community to call in to store over the coming weeks and donate whatever they can for this great cause.”

It is the first time that the pair have done a sky dive, so there are already a few nerves.

Mr Double added: “Specsavers is a community opticians and, sadly, every community is affected by cancer.

“It is a cause that is very important to us and, we know, to many of our customers, so we are proud to be supporting Velindre and the valuable work that they do.”

Specsavers is an official fundraising partner of Velindre.

All proceeds will go towards vital cancer research and to provide care for cancer suffers across Wales. On average every year Velindre provides care, treatment and support for over 130,000 outpatients and day cases.
