FINAL preparations are being made for this year's St David’s Hospice Care's annual Midnight Walk which takes place on Friday.

This years’ theme is 'electric' and the hospice is inviting everyone who is taking part to dress up in the brightest colours possible.

The walk will start and finish at Cwmbran Stadium.

Registration will start at 9pm and walkers will set off at 10pm for the eight-mile circular route around Cwmbran.

There will be entertainment and a warm up at the start, with hot tea and a barbecue to welcome everyone back.

St David's Hospice Care has been providing community-based hospice care for people in Gwent with cancer or other life-threatening illnesses, and their families, since 1979.

Western Power Distribution in Cwmbran, are the main sponsor for the event and Cwmbran Stadium-Torfaen Leisure Trust are also supporting the event.

Kris Broome, from St David’s Hospice Care, said: “We’re delighted that WPD are on board as sponsors for the event this year, together with Torfaen Leisure Trust who are supporting the event.

“We are delighted to announce that the Mayor of Torfaen, cllr Mandy Owen, will start this years’ walk. St David’s has been chosen as one of the Mayor’s charities for 2014 and are looking forward to a successful year ahead.

“St David’s Hospice Care offers a unique, extensive service to both our patients and their families and we rely heavily on external funding. The support from WPD and the Mayor of Torfaen will significantly help us to maintain our vital services."

Karen Welch from WPD said: “The excellent work of St David’s Hospice Care is very highly regarded and we are delighted to continue our association with the organisation by supporting the Midnight Walk this year.

“It’s a really worthwhile event which not only encourages people to enjoy the outdoors, but is a wonderful way of remembering a loved one and for such a great cause.”

Entry is £10 per person and the event is open to female and male participants. For more information visit www.stdavidshospicecare.org
