BUDDING chefs from Torfaen have created their own dish to sell at this year’s Abergavenny Food Festival.

Ten youngsters, including students from Fairwater, Croesyceiliog and West Monmouth Schools, spent the day Cwmbran Centre for Young People’s kitchen preparing their dish, known as Devil’s Chicken under the watchful eye of Mark Puckey, Rick Stein’s head chef lecturer.

The initiative is run by Randomz Project, in partnership with Communities First Torfaen and the three schools.

Youth Worker Kayleigh Thompson, said the group has spent the last month working on the project and have completed a food hygiene course.

She said: “They had to come up with a dish that they could make on the day and sell and decided on chicken in a pitta bread wrap with salad.”

“They have never done anything like this before but with the input of Mr Puckey made the bread from scratch.”
