THE 13-year-old granddaughter of former mayor of Blaenau Gwent, Cllr Mostyn Lewis, is the youngest female bowler from the borough to be selected to play for the county.

Lowri Powell has been playing bowls for Ebbw Vale Welfare Bowls Club ladies section since she was nine.

She has also played Welsh youth indoor bowls in both the under 16s and 18s teams and she will soon play in the Welsh ladies singles under 25s tournament.

In May Lowri played her first county game and was thrilled when her team beat Ceredigion by just one shot in a tense match. She said: “I was so excited and really enjoyed the match. And I’m so proud that I now have my first colt badge for playing for the county.”
