NEWPORT’S main post office will relocate to a new branch in the Kinsgway Centre, it was announced yesterday.

The branch on Bridge Street will move around 750 metres to the Sovereign Arcade in the centre, after a six-week public consultation on the proposed new service ran from February 19 until April 2.

The new branch will open on July 30.

The branch will be known as the Newport Post Office and will have a total of seven counters, five of which will be all-purpose, open-plan positions. The sixth counter will be open-plan and dedicated to providing travel products including travel Insurance, travel money and the award-winning Travel Money Card. The final counter will be a traditional screened counter position for high-value transactions.

The new branch will also have three new self-service kiosks, a dedicated mails acceptance point, and two private consultation rooms, where customers can discuss financial services and other products with specialist staff.

Roger Gale, general manager of Crown Network, said: “We are committed to maintaining post office services in Newport and we hope that this new service be welcomed as a real positive by our customers.”

He added: “We understand how important post office services are to people in the area. We want to make it easier for customers to do business with us, and we are confident this new modern branch will meet the needs of customers in the area and help us to secure services for the future.”
