THE SKY was the limit for one Newport teacher come fundraiser this weekend, as she jumped 15,000ft in the name of charity.

Jade Johnson, a year four teacher at Marshfield primary school, jumped 15,000ft out of a plane at Old Sarum airfield in Salisbury on Saturday. (June14)

The 29-year-old, who has taught at Marshfield Primary for the last six years, has a fear of heights.

She said: “I was scared out of my wits but now I’ve done it, I’d probably go even higher next time.

“I wasn’t even that nervous. I really surprised myself. It was amazing. I was free-falling for about 65 seconds.”

So far, the teacher has raised £1,200, split between Dementia UK, Stroke Association and Cancer Research UK.

She said: “I lost my Nan in February; she was my motivation to do it. She had a stroke.”

It was while going in out of hospital with her grandmother that Miss Johnson saw how vital charities such as the ones she chose to support, are.

But the fundraising hasn’t stopped, with a planned bake sale coming up in the school too. The teacher said she has had lots of support from friends, family, pupils and colleagues, which helped take the nerves away on the big day.

She said: “All the staff have really supported me in school. I’ve had donations from some of the children which has been really touching and they left me lovely messages.”

Pupils will get the chance to watch the DVD recording of their teacher’s dive in their celebration assembly this Friday.
