A WIDOW is organising a bike ride to raise funds for the hospital who treated her husband who died of a lung condition.

Michael Cutler had been receiving specialist treatment for bronchiectasis, a lung condition that makes it hard to breathe, at Papworth Hospital in Cambridgeshire for five years

But on March 16 last year, the 34-year-old, who was originally from Newport but lived in Fairwater in Cwmbran for 12 years, died unexpectedly after contracting pneumonia. Now, his widow, Angharad Cutler, 30, and friend Helen Mort are organising a 55-mile cycle ride to raise funds for the hospital who treated the father-of-four.

Mrs Cutler said: “Michael was an amazing person and was loved by many. He spent a lot of time in the care of Papworth and I know it would mean so much to him for us to be raising money for such a good cause.”

Around 30 people have already signed up to take part in the ride from Brecon town centre to Cardiff Bay, on August 16, but more people are invited to take part.

The team have already raised £1,370 of their £5,000 target.

Mrs Cutler added: “It is my first cycle ride but we are all determined to complete it.”
