A NATIONAL firm will pump new life into the services at Raglan, almost two years after they closed.

Euro Garages Limited, which now owns the derelict site, has been given permission by Monmouthshire council to demolish and rebuild the services on either side of the A40 that previously comprised of petrol stations, a Travelodge, Burger King, coffee outlet and Little Chef until it closed in September 2012.

Once rebuilt, the Lancashire-based petrol station company will provide petrol stations, café space and a hotel creating up to 90 jobs.

The site off the northbound carriageway will be open 24 hours a day, employ 45 staff and include a 175-space car park, café and trading area.

Euro Garages Ltd, which has 140 premises in the UK, is best-known for taking over the Rivington Services on the M61 in Lancashire, totally refurbishing the site to become one of the most modern on the UK’s motorways.

As well as petrol stations, the firm has long been associated with the sale of BP petrol and associated Spar convenience stores and, more recently, Subway sub-units and Starbucks drive-throughs.

The firm want to demolish the current ‘outdated’ building and petrol forecourt, keep the hotel, increase the size of the car park and provide a cash point. An outside seating area and four individual units would also be created: a Subway, Greggs, Starbucks and possibly Burger King.
