NINE-YEAR-OLD drummer Zak Roynon-Griffiths has raised more than £400 hundreds of pounds for a mum struck down with a rare neurological disorder, which has left her bedridden.

Abersychan pupil Zak banged his drum kit non-stop for two hours on Saturday to collect funds more than £400 for 33-year-old Lindsay Clarke.

The Talywain mum has battled Stiff Person Syndrome, which affects just one person in a million, since 2009. But her case worsened at the end of last year, leaving her a shell of her former self.

Two of her young children attend the same school that Zak does, Victoria Village Primary School in Abersychan.

Zak’s father James, 41, of Manor Way, said: “I thought he was going to struggle drumming for two hours but he did it. He had lots of support from friends and family. He did really well.”

Mrs Clarke’s only hope is to undergo an expensive stem cell treatment for which she is hoping to raise £300,000.

Victoria Village Primary School has previously raised funds for her, while more than £29,000 has been collected towards her appeal so far.
