AN ELDERLY woman was rescued after her car went over a residential wall in Newport today.

The one-vehicle crash happened on Cae Perllan Road in the Gaer area just before 4pm.

A resident, who said he was the first person on the scene, said the car had gone over a wooden fence and in between two cars into a driveway.

The incident also caused damage to a brick wall.

The resident said the woman appeared "flustered" after the incident.

Another resident, Marnie Gould-Davies, noticed the emergency services surrounding the address.

She said: “I was walking home and there were quite a lot of people stood in the road watching.

"As I got closer, I saw a car, which must have veered off the road and over a wall, trapped on top of another car.”

She said that fire crews had secured the vehicle and were working to lift it back onto the road.

A South Wales Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said the woman's car had left the roadway and was in a "precarious" position.

Fire crews from Duffryn and Malpas used extrication gear and a spine board to rescue the woman, who had become trapped in the car. She was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure.

No charges are being brought againt this flustered elderly woman!

No mention of who pays for the damage to the car, the houseowners fence and property also damaged in this incident.

When will she be back on the rd again, we need to look out for her!

I use this road 2/3 times a week. Going down it in the mornings I often have someone tailgating me even though I am doing the speed limit or just under--(cars do come up it too and the road narrows with cars parked both sides) I was amazed one morning when some prat OVERTOOK me!
