Gwent Police say they have now identified the woman, adding "her ongoing needs are being assessed".

A spokeswoman for Gwent Police said the woman is currently safe and well in the Royal Gwent Hospital and that they have circulated their appeal to all police forces as well as to the Missing Person Bureau.

She added they have checked the national police computer and database to try and identify the lady.

They have also been in touch with our partner agencies, i.e. health, probation, social services and Women's Aid, and wil be meeting some of them tomorrow.

GWENT Police have appealed for help in identifying a woman who walked into the Royal Gwent Hospital this morning and who does not know her own name.

The woman, described as being between 60 and 70 years-old, came to the hospital in the early hours of this morning.

She went to the Accident and Emergency Department at the hospital just after midnight although it is not known how she got there. She has no identification documents on her and can't recall any of her personal details.

She is described as being about five feet four inches tall and of large build. She was wearing a denim skirt, purple cardigan and a pink and white striped top. She was carrying a black handbag with a purse and cash inside it but nothing else. She is described as having a west country accent and is believed to be physically fit and healthy.

If anyone has information about her identity they are asked to call Gwent Police on 101 quoting log 10 7/8/14.
