THE Blaenavon Senior Band is celebrating after competing in the Eisteddfod and taking first place.

The competition, that took place in Llanelli on Saturday, was broadcast live on S4C.

The band competed in an entertainments competition which saw them play five pieces of music which was judged by three adjudicators.

Blaenavon band member, Lucinda Gough, played a solo piece, Georgia on My Mind.

The competition was a debut for the band’s kit player, Kieran Knight, age 10, who, Ms Gough described as going “on stage with nerves of steel doing the band proud”.

Band members were excited to receive first place in the competition.

The competition runs every year in conjunction with the Eisteddfod which takes place up and down the country.

Ms Gough, said: “The band have competed on many occasions in this competition but this year's was especially important for us as it puts us in good stead for our big competition at Cheltenham in September, The National Finals.”
