LLANFRECHFA is to host its first annual scarecrow festival between August 24 and 31 and families and businesses from the surrounding area are invited to get involved.

Up to 50 or more scarecrows will be built and displayed around the village, mainly along the main B4236 between Cwmbran and Ponthir.

Families and business owners are invited to construct a scarecrow and display it in the village for the festival week.

Judging will take place during the week and prizes awarded to the winners in a number of categories.

These include best family scarecrow, best commercial entry, best overall and best scarecrow as voted by the public.

On August 31, the Llanfrechfa Village Association will host a fun day in the car park of the The Gate, village pub and restaurant.

The fun day will also include live music, stalls and a treasure trail route around Llanfrechfa to view all the scarecrow entries. Visitors will be invited to vote for their favourite scarecrow.

The scarecrow festival is open to all.
