A MAN was talked down from Newport's Millennium footbridge over the river Usk on Tuesday evening, South Wales Fire and Rescue Service has said.

Head of fire control Jennie Griffiths tweeted that specialist fire fighters, ambulance and police responded to the incident where they found a man in a precarious position on the bridge shortly before 7pm.

He was talked down by police, she said.

A fire service spokeswoman said the man was left in the care of ambulance staff and fire fighters left the scene at 6.56pm.
