MONMOUTHSHIRE students are again celebrating as 9.4 per cent of pupils achieved A*, with more students entered for exams than ever before and the county’s pass rate up to 99 per cent, compared to 96.75 per cent last year.

Caldicot School saw the percentage of students getting A*-A jumping to nine per cent, while Monmouth and Chepstow schools saw more than 80 per cent of pupils achieving A*-C.

Abergavenny’s King Henry VIII Comprehensive school saw a third (32 per cent) of students get A*-A grades and 12 per cent got A*s.

At Chepstow School, A-level students achieved a 100 per cent pass rate and more than 80 per cent of them will go onto higher education.

Former Pembroke Primary School pupil Rhiannon White will be studying at Pembroke College, Oxford, reading experimental psychology after she got A*s in biology and psychology and As in English and maths.

Tim Bonvoisin, from Llanfair Discoed, will be studying at St Benet’s Hall, Oxford, to read philosophy and theology after securing three As.

Keen boxer Rosie Eccles will be studying sports studies at Cardiff Metropolitan University, having got an A in PE and Bs in history and economics, while triplets Hannah, Will and Tom Leney, from Itton, will all be studying at the University of Birmingham which they say was a coincidence.

Will will be studying engineering, his brother sports science and Hannah will start a nursing degree later this year.

Kane Forkasiewicz will be working with the National Grid, Ross Hamilton with the Ministry of Defence and Anna Stanley and Gareth Jones have secured places with the Army and the RAF respectively.

Caldicot School achieved 84 A* and As or their equivalent and 37 per cent achieved two or more A-levels graded A*-B.

Owen Williams, who got an A* and 2 As, will be reading physics at Manchester, while Rebecca Burke will read English and philosophy at Bristol after achieving three As.

Sophie Squibbs will read history at Exeter after achieving three As and Elizabeth Morgan Owen will be studying maths at Cardiff University after passing with an A*, an A and two Bs.

At Monmouth Comprehensive School, with a pass rate of over 99 per cent, 30 per cent of students achieved three or more A*s and As at A Level, out of 156 students who entered A-level and BTEC exams this summer.

All students who took the Welsh Baccalaureate at Advanced Level passed.

Students with three or more A* grades included Ryan Lee, Lyndsey Millin, Huw Jones, Jessica Prince, Simran Kaur, Eleri Eldridge-Tull, Saffron Parsons and Alexi Warshawski.

Students will be studying at places such as Oxford, Bristol, Durham, Cardiff, Swansea and as far away as Amsterdam.
