‘MUCH-LOVED’ Newport churchman Rev Noel Williams, the deacon of All Saints parish, has died.

Rev Williams was one of the permanent deacons of the diocese serving the parish of All Saints for around seven years.

He had been unwell in recent months and died peacefully in the early hours of Saturday at his home near Corporation Road.

The Archdiocese of Cardiff website carried a tribute which said: “Rev Williams was a well respected member of the All Saints community and will be sadly missed.”

His good friend and fellow church member, Pasquale Cinotti, of Gemelli’s Restaurant in Newport, said he was a “much-loved” member of the community.

“He was a very gentle man and was much loved by the community,” he said. “It is a huge loss.”

Mr Cinotti added that he had known Rev Williams for around 15 years, during which time Rev Williams had worked at the Colour Centre in Pill for 47 years until he retired.

He said Rev Williams has always been a big supporter of his studies to become a deacon himself.

The funeral will take place on Friday, August 29, at 10am.

The mass will take place at St Mary’s Roman Catholic Church on Stow Hill. Fr John Kelly, former parish priest of All Saints, will preside
