OPPOSITION politicians in the Senedd have questioned why Welsh Government is running 98 websites at a cost of £700,000 a year, according to figures they've obtained.
The statistics, obtained by a North Wales Tory AM Janet Finch-Saunders show 14 websites were created by the Labour government in 2013/14, at a cost of £366,000.
Website management costs for a further 14 sites totalled more than £332,000 during the same financial year, the party has said.
In total, 70 websites are operated by Welsh Government staff, 19 of those on behalf of third parties, while a further 28 are operated by third parties on behalf of Welsh Government.
In a statement Welsh Conservatives said £700,000 could pay for more than 30 new paramedics or nurses in Wales and is the exact amount the Labour government cut from the adult national language programme.
In her response the finance minister said there was an ongoing programme to review all Welsh Government sites to streamline and improve delivery.
A Welsh Government spokesman added: "The majority of our sites already share hosting, support, maintenance and licensing costs."
