FIVE men charged with offences of violence in connection with an incident in Pill, in Newport, earlier this month in which eight people were injured, appeared at a hearing at the city's crown court yesterday.

Justin Henshall, 27, of Wolseley Street, Pill, is charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Liam Thompson, 25, of Howe Circle, Ringland, Newport, Lewis Wilkins, 21, of Sevenoaks Road, Ely, Cardiff, and Joseph Davies, 25, of Drylla, Dinas Powys, are charged with one count of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent.

All the charges relate to an incident that occurred on Sunday August 3.

Henshall remains in custody and Davies remains on conditional bail. Thompson - in custody since the incident - was released on conditional bail yesterday, and Wilkins remains in custody but will face a bail application hearing on Friday August 29.

Jordan Henshall, 29, also of Wolseley Street, Pill, is charged with three counts of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, arising from the incident. He too remains remanded in custody.

All five men will appear again at Newport Crown Court on Friday October 31 for a plea and case management hearing.
