ENGINEERS are still working to restore gas to Nantyglo homes that have been without supply for five days.

A Wales and West Utilities (WWU) spokesman said the company was looking to restore gas to about 755 properties. Gas has been unavailable since last Thursday when a water main burst and damaged gas pipes.

About 660 properties will have their gas supply restored on: Limestone Road, Limestone Road East, Chapel Road, New Road, Ty Heulwen, Lakeside Estate, Brynawelon Estate, Market Road, Wesley Buildings, Waunheulog and Waunfawr Road.

The company has removed over 150,000 litres of water from about 10 kilometres of the gas network, the spokesman said.

All engineers will be going door to door at the properties, where they will ask people to access their gas meters to turn their supply back on. The company said all of their staff will be carrying identification.

And the spokesman said the company’s staff are working around the clock to resolve the lack of supply.

He said: “We would like to thank the community for their patience while we work to restore gas supplies as safely and as quickly as possible.”

Ebbw Vale sports centre is open until 4pm for anyone who wants to have a shower and is unavailable to take one at home.

WWU will release a further update at 1pm.
