THREE people were seriously injured in Caerleon after a car hit them on Saturday.

The three, a 79-year-old man, a 71-year-old woman and a 63-year-old man, sustained serious injuries and are being treated at the Royal Gwent Hospital.

Gwent Police said a gold Vauxhall Corsa hit them on Ponthir Road in Caerleon opposite the Roman Lodge Hotel at around 9.05 pm on Saturday evening.

A spokeswoman said the man driving the Corsa and the female passenger left the scene before police arrived. The man is white, about 20-years-old and was wearing dark bottoms and a white t-shirt. He is described as having short hair. The female passenger is described as having shoulder length hair and wearing trousers and a jacket.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to the collision to come forward and in particular anyone who may have seen the Corsa being driven before the incident. They believe the car was driven in the direction of Ponthir from Caerleon Town Centre.

Anyone with information is asked to call Gwent Police on 101 quoting log 595 23/8/14.

I sincerely hope you're right. Unfortunately our court's record of dispensing justice isn't great.

I wald the dog from Ponthir to Caerleon every day. Today I witnessed a car overtake a van on a blind corner going over the railway bridge, a bus drove past the narrow pavement with literally 3" between it an me! and May cars doing over 35 at the speed check going into Caerleon just before the corner - with one even doing 55!!! Then you have all the idiots flashing other cars to warn them that the speed vans are on the road.

As for the place where the accident occurred nobody uses the crossing by the Spar, and cars park all along the pavement outside the pub so that pedestrians have no choice but to walk into the road.

I've even had a car of youngsters shout abuse as they drive past and on a separate occassion youngsters threw sweets hard into my legs. not so funny for a small child.

Someone must know:
a) someone who has a gold Corsa
b) who doesn't seem to have it at the moment because the police have it.

Will that person please inform the police of their neighbour/friend's missing gold Corsa?

Should we read anything suspicious into the fact that the police have the car but haven't traced the registered keeper? Or if they have, they've been eliminated.

There is nothing in this article that indicates who was to blame for the collision or why it occurred. There could be many reasons for leaving the scene - often no insurance, but that's also speculation.

There could indeed be many reasons for leaving the scene....none of them legal or moral. Even if 1 person left the scene to summon help, the other one didn't hang around. And in this case nobody left to summon help.

Another boy racer no doubt. A real problem in the entire area, especially Pontypool, Abergavenny etc, etc.

What these dimwits do not quite get is that ragging their own cars to oblivion only ruins the car, not to mention accidents like this happen and the noise they emanate is a bit selfish to name a few.

Out of all, Wales has the worst drivers as far as I am concerned in the UK. The driving in general is horrendous, people drive right up your behind, they refuse to understand what 30 and 40mph means as an example, and are complete nutters, what I call angry little Welsh men who seem to be in a hurry to race to wherever they are going, "job centre" I will assume as to why they rush about at death defying speed so much?.

This unfortunately seems to be the majority in Wales, and is not isolated. Complete loonatics.
