A Gwent Police spokeswoman confirmed that a Caerleon man has been arrested following the crash and is currently in police custody.

She said the 20-year-old had been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury through dangerous driving; failing to stop at a road traffic collision and failing to report a road traffic collision and added that police inquires were ongoing.

I predict a minimal fine a few points on the licence and several hours painting railings.

So.....progress. Whether or not this turns out to be the perpetrator let's hope that the charge reflects the seriousness of the offence when the person , whoever it is, is eventually prosecuted. This also applies to the other person present. They should face charges for something even if 'joint enterprise' doesn't apply in this case.

I understand too that another person has been questioned for perverting course of justice. Looking at ages, likely to be a parent. Hope they get more than a slap on the wrist if proven. I'm a parent and would do anything for my family but helping them wriggle out of something like this-no. The responsible (and ultimately caring thing) would be to encourage them to go to the police, and then support them through the repercussions.

What a poor excuse for a human being critically injuring hree people and then flees like the chavvy coward he is.

I imagine it was probably his brain-dead parents; who where stupid enough to buy him the car and tax and insure it for this chavvy scrote..

I'm sure his mother or one of his friends will be in shortly and tell us "What a lovely boy he is"
