Great stuff. I recently went to Belfast and saw their new shopping centre which was built by Queensberry also and was very impressed - they've got a good track record. (Before any smart alec says it, I realise that the Newport development is on a much smaller scale than Belfast. Nonetheless, it bodes well).

Have a look at the Friars Walk website at:- http://friarswalknew
port.co.uk/#.
There's a "monthly overhead video" showing the up to date construction. Also worth looking at the "fly through" video which gives an idea of how the finished Friars walk will look.

I agree with both of you here. Yes, it is looking very positive indeed. This is great news. I fully support this development. This will be great for Newport.

It might very well be when people like yourself keep putting the place down. What retailer is going to set up in a city where it's people have no pride in their city? Grow up and stop posting stupid comments.

Really enjoying watching the progress! :)

I put the place down because, after living here for over 50 years I have only seen decline coupled with shocking planning decisions.
On the other hand Cardiff has boomed.
Carry on living in your dream world!

Go and live somewhere else then!! The only way this venture will be a success is if the people of Newport support it so why not give it a whirl before you condemn it? We've been down for so long that we can only go up now!! Good luck to all involved.

So what is your solution?
Just leave things as they are and the place will never improve.
Cardiff was a dump not that long ago.

I've been living in Southampton since 1997. It was a fairly dull place to be honest but it has changed so much and for the better. The development here is still ongoing with a cultural centre being constructed presently and I'm mystified why Newport remained stagnant/declined for so long.

I really hope the new schemes will help boost and change Newport where I was born and raised. One thing, amongst others, which has transformed Southampton and helped it to thrive is the cafe culture with diverse ethnic foods to choose from. They also have 'food market' every Friday (food stalls, seating etc) in the town which is very popular. My foreign students really rate it here and that is saying something particularly when they are French! So if they can do it here then Newport can also or is the council that bad?

Newport cannot possibly get any worse.
I remember how building a new Bridge was going to put Newport on the map, then it was building the Train Station was going to change Newport, and Building the University was going to change Newport,
But I expect this latest scheme to be the same as the Kingsway Center, which has never been fully occupied, another white elephant.

It would appear we people who can remember these previous planning blunders are in the minority - we should carry on supporting the place irrespective!
Time will tell.
