THE man who died following an incident in Risca on Wednesday night causing police to launch a murder investigation has been named locally as Stephen ‘Lammy’ Lambert.

Police and an ambulance were called to an address in Twmbarlwm Close in Risca at about 8.45pm on Wednesday after a 35-year-old man was discovered with stab injuries. He was taken to Newport’s Royal Gwent Hospital, where he later died.

Two men, aged 28 and 33, have been arrested on suspicion of murder, and last night remained in police custody as inquiries continued.

Police cordoned off two areas in Twmbarlwm Close following the incident.

A witness said a helicopter was seen searching the area on Wednesday night, while armed police swarmed around the street.

A paramedic in a rapid-response vehicle and a crew in an emergency ambulance were sent to the scene and they took the injured man, who was in a critical condition, to the Royal Gwent Hospital, where he later died, a Welsh Ambulance Service Trust spokesman said.

Witnesses said the armed police were on the scene until the early hours, some of them with police dogs.
