STAFF at the historic Abergavenny hotel are preparing to take part in south Wales’ premier charity race and beat a new fundraising target.

General manager of the Angel Hotel, William Griffiths, has been getting his staff involved in training with him for the Cardiff 10K on September 7, in order to raise money for race organisers Kidney Wales.

Having raised £900 last year, Mr Griffiths hopes his team will exceed the £1,000 mark and is encouraging other local organisations and individuals to sign up to this year’s Cardiff 10K and the 2K fun run to raise money for a worthy cause.

Participating for the fourth year in a row, the Angel Hotel is entering two teams of six into the corporate challenge.

With their two teams coming 13th and 34th in the 2013 race, Mr Griffiths hopes to have at least one team finishing in the top 10 for the first time.

Dedicated to supporting his colleagues, Mr Griffiths includes his staff in his own training sessions and has encouraged them to take part in local races and challenges in preparation for the Cardiff 10K.

Having already completed the Monmouth Kymin Dash this year, Mr Griffiths also gathered a team of employees to take part in the Three Peaks challenge, trekking over the Blorenge, Sugar Loaf and Skirrid mountains.

Organised by Kidney Wales, the race is one of the top ten road races in the UK, and sees top athletes running alongside celebrities and members of the public for the cause.

Last year’s Cardiff 10K saw a record of almost 4,000 runners take part which raised a record sum for Kidney Wales, which is going directly into improving care for patients.
