6:08pm

PHOTOGRAPHS of iconic Welsh locations are on display during the Nato summit around the Celtic Manor, Cardiff and Newport.

Gwent locations that made the cut include the Celtic Manor itself, Newport's Transporter Bridge and the Brecon Beacons.

You may have already seen these on hoardings along the riverside in Newport near Rodney Parade.

How the summit is being reported across the world:

The New Telegraph of Nigeria has this to say: "Most Nigerians might struggle to see any significance in Newport, the Welsh former industrial backwater that straddles the brown-watered River Usk.But though it seems far removed, events in the city this week could have a direct impact on Nigeria and the world: Newport hosts the annual summit of NATO, the Atlantic defence alliance."

FREELANCE reportage illustrator Harry Morgan, 22, hopes to capture some of the atmosphere of protests against the Nato summit as well as other developments with drawings from the international event.

The Bristol University illustration graduate, from Cardiff, said the aim is to make drawings that offer a more personal, insightful account than photographs might.

“Over the next week I will be in Cardiff and Newport, creating drawings of the developments in the city centre as the Nato conference unfolds, and of the ‘Say no to Nato’ protest camp, and the march on Thursday,” he said.

8:57am

Llanwern High School in Newport is one of the schools on the list of possible destinations to be visited by US President Barack Obama and UK Prime Minister David Cameron during this week’s summit.
The school will be given 24 hours’ notice if they are chosen, explained business manager Andy Knight.
The brand new school is one of a handful in Wales with its own Cadet Force and 30 cadets will be forming a ‘guard of honour’ at the summit on Thursday. A top Nato commander is expected to visit the school this morning to speak to pupils.

Saw two very heavy American planes and heavy duty helicopter fly overhead yesterday - the propellers made our office windows shake (!) Looked them up on the internet later on and found out the planes were carrying members of the US marine corps presidential guard and the helicopter was full of American secret service on their way to RAF Fairford. So I guess President Obama's plane will land there and I've heard rumours that he's going to be helicoptered on to HMS Duncan in Cardiff bay where he will visit the Assembly. Lots of police activity out there, including police motorcades rehearsing for something, so I guess this figures...?

Funny you should mention that Dai, not strictly a local sighting, but have just seen half a dozen of what look to be bomb detection devices in Cardiff bay near the Assembly, guarded by a very suave looking chap in black suit, tie and crisp white shirt - who'd definitely pass for a stereotypical FBI agent in a Hollywood movie. Plenty of overhead activity at the moment, too. No sightings of enemy aliens as of yet, however - more's the pity;)

Sorry to point out the bl**ding obvious but NATO was formed to resist the Soviet Union.
The Soviet Union no longer exists so why are we still paying for it?

I do hope all the chest bangers on here worshiping NATO will be the first to volunteer to go to Ukraine if the West succeeds into goading Russia to war- my guess is most of you are chicken hawks.

Don't forget Joe Biden's son was appointed head of Ukraine's oil and gas company weeks before the Ukraine crisis kicked off- By Crimea choosing to go with Russia he has lost 78% of Ukraine's claims in the Black Sea. That gotta smart :)

You can always put notes in the chest bangers bags saying "I know what you did". and "You murdered her"

I wouldn't complain if you blew up Newport with all the Chav's still in there, just like you did with the Asylum:)

Then again when they blew up the old Newport car park it rained hypodermic needles so perhaps not

Down here on the Newport riviera,(Brown muddy river indeed! It's more of a taupe colour) The dawns and sunsets can be quite spectacular if you are about, should impress the crew of that bloomin' great aircraft carrier no end. Mr Jolly sounds very bitter and twisted, it's the citizens which make the character of this city not the other way around.
