GREENMEADOW Community Farm successfully hosted its 24th horticultural and craft show on Sunday, despite damage following on from a deliberate fire last week.

The family show in Cwmbran went ahead with a jam-packed schedule and nearly 20 displays and events during the course of the day.

It was the third year the farm has put on a dog show as part of the event, which was hosted by dog trainer Steve Vedmore, who trained squirrels for the 2005 film Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

The 120-acre farm welcomed both adults and children to watch falconry demonstrations, a tractor pull, pig racing and a tractor-naming ceremony.

On September 4 vandals set fire to half of the farm’s adventure playground, including the tyre swing, wooden bridge and shelter.

Following the fire, which police called deliberate, local company Made 2 Measure built a staircase so children could still access the remaining parts of the play area.

From 10.30am until 5pm children could meet some of the farm’s smaller animals in the Cuddle Corner, while both adults and children could take classes working with vegetables, flowers and cookery.

Visitors learned about the role horses can play in therapy for adults and children with learning difficulties and mental health issues, with an equine-assisted therapy demonstration.

On top of this, awards and prizes were given to exhibitors and produce.
