A SCIENCE fiction author is to publish the second book in a series which brought aliens to Abergavenny.

Jason Chapman, 44, of Heol Hamelin, has written a series set in 1952 and follows a Cambridge professor who is assigned to a top secret research group whose key task is to investigate UFO sightings. Part of his first novel, The Angel Committee, is set at the Old psychiatric hospital Pen-Y-Fal in Abergavenny and a church in Fforest Coal Pit features in the Angel Conspiracy his second novel which will be published on September 27.

The self-published author said: "I had the idea for The Angel Committee after downloading a document from the public records office a few years ago. On the 28th July 1952 Winston Churchill wrote a memo to one of his scientific advisers.

"I was fascinated that Churchill wrote this memo and when I downloaded more documents I discovered that a top secret group existed within the government. It was called the Flying Saucer Working Party consisting of several men from both military and scientific backgrounds and was led by Sir Henry Tizard who helped develop radar during the war. Tizard felt that flying saucers deserved more research."

The BAE Systems employee has had a number of radio interviews in the United States where he said his book series is proving popular. Mr Chapman's first novel sold 1,000 copies and his second novel features minor cameos from Winson Churchill.

He said: "Its fascinating writing about the cold war period and digging through history. I plan for more local areas to be in the third novel - there are so many myths and legends in Wales."
