THOUSANDS of visitors are expected in Newport on Saturday as its fourth food festival hits the city centre streets.

The Newport Food Festival is celebrating the city’s diverse urban food offering with more than 70 stalls in Commercial Street and Bridge Street.

Some of the country’s leading culinary experts will be holding free chef demonstrations throughout the day in Newport Market and The Riverfront.

Top chefs Hywel Jones, Anand George, James Sommerin and Stuart Spicer will also be taking master classes for smaller groups. The event this year is jointly sponsored by Coleg Gwent and Celtic Manor Resort.

One of the highlights of the day will be the Teenchef final in The Riverfront, sponsored by Western Power Distribution, with four teams of budding chefs from youth groups across the city cooking up a storm.

There will be talks in Waterstones in Commercial Street including a latte art, cake icing demonstration and a talk on afternoon tea.

Newport Market will be hosting a ‘beer banter’ talk and Project Space in Commercial Street will hold talks and tasters.

There will be street entertainment from Fried Gold Theatre, comedy waiters, and the Magnificent Johno, who will perform magic tricks.

An art table and face painting will be available at The Riverfront.
