FOUR people have been arrested as police investigate the unexplained death of a teenager whose body was found in a flat in Newport.

Three of the four are held on suspicion of obstructing a coroner in the execution of his or her duty, and one on suspicion of supplying a class B controlled drug – in relation to the death.

Officers responded to reports of a body in flat at Albion Court in the Pill area of the city shortly after 8pm on Saturday, October 11. The body was susbequently found to be that of Kieran Dacey, aged 18, with identification confirmed by his fingerprints.

Gwent coroner David Bowen yesterday formally opened an inquest into Mr Dacey’s death, but adjourned the hearing for three months.

He was told that a post mortem examination was carried out earlier this week by Home Office pathologist Dr Richard Jones at the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff. But he has so far been unable to determine a cause of death, and the results of toxicology tests are awaited.

Gwent Police have confirmed that inquiries into the circumstances of Mr Dacey’s death are continuing, and that four people have been arrested.

In the aftermath of the discovery of Mr Dacey’s body, a 17-year-old, an 18-year-old and a 21-year-old, all males, were arrested on suspicion of obstructing a coroner in the execution of his or her duty, and a 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of supplying a class B controlled drug.

All four have been released on bail pending further inquiries.
