A CAT has been rescued after being stuck up a 40 foot tree in Newport.

For four days the black and white cat had been stuck up the 40 foot tree at the back of Woodside in Duffryn.

Following a call to the RSPCA, animal collection officer Gary Lucas, arrived at the scene to find the cat clinging on for dear life high up an ash tree.

To help with the rescue, a rope rescue team from South Wales Fire and Rescue Service was called and a tree surgeon from Newport Council arrived at the scene.

Mr Lucas said: “The cat had been chased up by another cat and was really quite distressed. It was just going upwards when anyone went near, so it was quite difficult. The cat almost fell out of the tree.

“The team used ropes to climb the tree and brought the cat down to safety. The cat was dehydrated and stressed, but otherwise was okay.

“It was a very brave rescue by the tree surgeon. The owner was delighted to get her pet back safe on the ground and was very relieved.”
