SOMETHING spooky's going on in Gwent this weekend with plenty of fiendishly fun Halloween activities taking place in the run up to the main event.

Tredegar House in Newport kicked off its daily Halloween-themed activities yesterday (FRI) which will continue from noon to 3pm each day until Halloween itself on Friday, October 31.

Visitors will be able to take part in a range of creepy crafts and pumpkin carving in the Orangery. They will also be able to take home their own Tredegar House trick or treat with bat-themed biscuit decorating.

Costumes are welcome and there will be a spooky trail to follow through the gardens.

Harriet O’Brien, events and marketing assistant, said: "The team can’t wait for Halloween this year. There are loads of traditional spooky activities for the whole family to get involved with, from creepy crafts to pumpkin carving - you can even make your own Tredegar House trick or treat with our batty biscuit decorating.

"This year we’re hoping to continue providing the community with a great venue for traditional Halloween activities."

Normal admission costs apply and visitors will have to pay £3 to carve a pumpkin and 50p per biscuit.

Dewstow Grottoes in Caerwent is hosting a week of Halloween fun starting today (SAT).

The grottoes, in Dewstow Rd, will be hosting a pumpkin trail and spooky tunnel from 10.10am to 3.20pm each day until Friday, October 31.

Prices are £7 for adults, £6 senior citizens, £4 for children aged 11 to 18 and free for 10 and under. The pumpkin trail also costs an extra £1.

A pop-up cinema featuring a spooky movie is heading to Caerphilly Castle this weekend.

The outdoor screening of Invasion of the Bodysnatchers, a PG film, will be taking place tonight at 8pm.

Audience members are asked to dress warmly and themed snacks and drinks will be available.

Ghoulish tales will be told at Cwmcarn Forest tomorrow (SUN) at two sessions from 5pm to 6pm for children aged five to seven and 6.30pm to 7.30pm for children aged eight to 10.

Booking is essential and the cost is £5 per child. There is also a fancy dress competition.

Parkrun is getting into the spooky spirit with a special Halloween-themed junior run tomorrow. (SUN)

The run is taking place at 10am at Tredegar House and Halloween fancy dress is encouraged.

The National Trust has also agreed to provide free entry to all junior finishes at Tredegar House to enjoy the Halloween-themed activities.

A Halloween afternoon tea is being held at the All Creatures Great and Small animal sanctuary in Cwmbran today (SAT) featuring home-made cakes, jams, a raffle, lucky dip, plant sale, and pet accessories sale.

The event will take place from 1pm to 4pm and visitors will have the chance to get to know the sanctuary's resident animals and those still waiting for their forever homes.

The sanctuary is situated at Church farm, in Church Road, Llanfrechfa. There is free entry.

Newport Museum and Art Gallery will be hosting free spooky craft sessions on Wednesday, October 29 throughout the day.

There will be four sessions from 11am to noon, noon to 1pm, 1pm to 2pm and 2pm to 3pm.

Over in Cwmbran, St Joseph’s Club have organised a charity Halloween Party in aid of the Mayor’s Charity Appeal Fund, on Friday, October 31 at 7.00pm.

The disco will raise funds for St David’s Hospice Care, Tenovus and Togs.
