NEWPORT’S oldest department store will celebrate its 140th birthday next week with a day of events in store.
On Tuesday November 4 Wilding’s are holding a ‘jamboree customer day’ to celebrate the anniversary; featuring champagne, a Gwent jazz band, tombola and store discounts.
Managing director Peter James said he expects over a thousand people to attend the store which reopened in May having undergone a massive refurbishment.
"We are celebrating 140 years of trading on Newport high street,” he said.
“We are going to have a day of celebration featuring our usual discounts and promotions in store including 20 percent off fashion as well as having a jazz band playing in store.
“All money raised from the tomobola will go to the mayors’ charity and we want our customers to know they have a very high chance of winning.
“We are proud to still be going and we are hoping it will be a big celebration.”
The store on Newport High Street will also receive a visit from Newport Mayor Matthew Evans at Noon on the day to cut a cake in the stores honour.
The event will kick off at 9.30am until 5.30pm.
