Raw sewage hell for residents

FURIOUS residents in a Gwent town say they are having to cope with raw sewage running past their front doors.

And one of those involved, Pontypool pensioner, Raymond Morgan, said he is concerned about health risks to himself and his wife Emily.

Mr Morgan, 77 claims the sewage has been overflowing"on and off for four years".

He said it is coming from an outlet on a street above and running past his front door and into his garage.

"It's disgusting - when it happens we've got to leave our shoes outside," he said.

"When we arrive back in the car we've go to walk through it to get to the door and it's the same when we leave the house.

"We have told Welsh Water about this on numerous occasions and engineers come up to free the blockage but it always comes back.

Welsh Water said it has been called to sort out flooding on the street in December and that it is carrying out further investigations.

Mr Morgan's son Ron, who lives in the next street said the problem has happened more frequently than that.

"It has happened ever since Edward Street just above King Street was demolished about four years ago -we are wondering whether a pipe was damaged," he said.

"In any case this should not be happening."

Mr Morgan Snr said the mess was ruining his quality of life.

"It's making our lives a misery - we at the stage now where we're worried about the health risks."

A spokesman for Welsh Water said: "We urge all customers who experience the flooding to report the incident to us by calling our free phone helpline on 0800 085 3968."
