LITTER pickers aged from 10 to 80 were out in Pill on Monday keeping the streets tidy.

A group of around 40 people filled 89 sacks with litter including nappies, empty bottles, crisp packets and cigarette butts during the two hours they patrolled the area after meeting at the Pill Millennium Centre.

Paul Murphy, 42, who set up the ‘Pride of Pill Group’, said the day was a big success.

Mr Murphy, who works as a cleaner, said: “We get more and more people coming all the time. People like it because they can meet new people. If people see us cleaning up they are more likely to keep the streets clean themselves.”

He organised a litter pick in August and since then has been going out every week, with his next big community clean-up planned for February.

He has entered the group in the Keep Wales Tidy awards, he added.
