TWO people have suffered potentially life-threatening injuries following an incident at a block of flats in the St Julians area of Newport this evening.
Emergency services were called to Greenwood flats, at the junction of Monmouth Drive and Beaufort Road, at about 5.50pm.
Police said on arrival, officers discovered a woman with potentially life-threatening injuries at the property and a man was located a short distance away also suffering from similar injuries.
Both have been taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital in Newport where they remain in a critical but stable condition.
It is believed the man and woman are known to each other.
Residents said they saw two ambulances and five police cars attend the scene.
Jenny Jones, who was visiting her brother who lives in Monmouth Drive, said: "There was a search over in Kelly Road. The helicopter was here with its search light on too.
"There's nothing like this happened before. It's shocking."
Anyone with information should call 101 quoting log 364 20/11/14.
