SOME AMs have reacted with anger at the call for their pay to go up by nearly £10,000.
Speaking in the Senedd today, Monmouth AM Nick Ramsay said: "There’s no way I’m going to go down to my local pub and argue for a £10,000 pay increase. That would be outrageous", adding: "I suspect at the end of this year we won’t have these sort of proposals on the table".
The Conservative said: "We need a salary settlement which means we can be safe to go out of our front door without getting tomatoes hurled at us."
Eluned Parrott for the Liberal Democrats AM said the call for a waqge hike was "entirely inappropriate."
"Do we really want a political class of people who are here for the money?" she asked, adding: "It’s unjustifiable to suggest with a small increase in work there should be a massive increase in pay".
The independent Remuneration Board for the National Assembly for Wales says Senedd politicians' salaries should go up after the next election because of the extra responsibilities they are taking on.
