FOUR businesses in Gwent have been shortlisted from hundreds across Wales for the National Tourism Awards for Wales 2015.

The Celtic Manor Resort, Raspberry Tea Rooms in Cwmbran, White Hart Village Inn, Llangibby and Monmouthshire Cottages, Chepstow, were all shortlisted for awards.

The awards run by Visit Wales, recognise the best places in Welsh tourism with 58 businesses and individuals shortlisted across 14 categories.

The Celtic Manor Resort, Newport, has been nominated in a record three categories – Best Place to Stay Hotel, Best Business Tourism and Tourism Skills Development.

Chief executive Ian Edwards said: “We are delighted to be shortlisted for the National Tourism Awards for Wales 2015 for Best Business Tourism.

"It has been a landmark year for both Celtic Manor and Wales after staging such a successful Nato Summit in September.

"We were proud to showcase Wales to the world and some of its most influential leaders at the summit and the global exposure it gave us was absolutely phenomenal.”

The Raspberry Tea Rooms in Cwmbran was also shortlisted in the Best Place to Eat Cafe category.

Director Julie Nelson said: “We’re over the moon and can’t quite believe it.

"I only tentatively entered and we have a very small place and team room.

"It’s an amazing heritage building and the tea room has been there for two and a bit years.

"We’ve been in business for three and a bit years.”

The White Hart Village Inn, in Llangibby is shortlisted for Best Place to Eat Small Restaurant.

Director Michael Bates said the team were absolutely delighted to be shortlisted for the award.

He said:“This is testimony to our dedication and our commitment to consistently deliver our vision.

“We endeavour to position the White Hart as one of the best eating venues in Wales, where like minded people will wish to frequent.”

The Monmouthshire Cottages in Chepstow is up for Best Visitor Welcome.

Fiona and Malcolm Wilton of the cottages said: “We really do go out of our way to give everyone a personal welcome tailored to their needs, and with lots of extras, but in fact the process starts months before arrival- really from when they first look at our website and we start planning their stay with them.”

The awards ceremony will be held on Wednesday March 25 at The Vale Resort in Hensol.
