THE Market Hall Cinema in Brynmawr is hosting its first ever art show.

The lobby of the historic cinema will be transformed to exhibit the works of Blaina based artist James Chasteauneuf. The show features oil paintings created in Brynmawr and Nantyglo over the past few months.

He said: “I love people and I love painting outdoors as the Impressionists did – many nice people stop and make encouraging comments – I might well be an entertainer at heart.”

Beth Watkins, 52, of the charitable trust that now runs the venue, said: “We’re expecting thousands through the door to catch one of great Christmas movies over the next few weeks. We thought it would be fun to offer people chance to look at some fantastic art while munching on their popcorn.”

The exhibit has particular relevance to the cinema, as it features a portrait of the cinema manager Ralph Price.

Admission to the gallery is free and runs until January 16, 2015.
