A BLACKWOOD teenager has admitted the murder of a 29-year-old father.

The 16-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared by video link at Cardiff Crown Court this morning where he pleaded guilty to the murder of Michael Lee Emmett.

He is due to be sentenced on January 14.

The teenager had appeared before Gwent magistrates on August 4 of this year also charged with two counts of wounding with intent, assault on a police officer and for breaching an anti-social behaviour order.

He pleaded guilty to all the charges and will also be sentenced for these offences on January 14.

The Argus reported how Mr Emmett sustained wounds in an incident on Bryn Road and Apollo Way in Blackwood on Friday, August 1 this year.

He died on Tuesday, September 2.

An inquest held on September 24 heard that a post mortem examination revealed that Mr Emmett died of liver injuries .

A second man, John Williams, 44, also from Blackwood, was also wounded on August 1. He received hospital treatment and was later released.

The Argus previously reported how at magistrates court, the teenager had admitted stabbing the men in the back with a kitchen knife after a “run in” outside the Stone House pub in Blackwood.

The teenager breached an Asbo through his “abusive and drunken” behaviour in a public place on the evening, the court heard.

The boy was taken to Ystrad Mynach Police Station where he spat in the face of PC Cari Bowen-Davies.

At the magistrates hearing, the boy’s defence solicitor said his client had underlying mental health and anger management issues.

At the time of Mr Emmett's death, his partner, Natalie, said in tribute to him: “Michaelee was a true gentleman, always putting others first. He was a fantastic father to our twin boys and we know he would have adored his first daughter.

"He wasn't just my partner and father to our children, he was my soul mate, my best friend and was cruelly snatched away too soon. But he will never be forgotten and he will be loved always.”

Detective Inspector Nicky Brain said: “The guilty plea today is a result of the amount and quality of evidence gathered by officers working on the investigation and presented by the prosecution.

"This was a tragic incident that took Michael Lee Emmett's life and changed the lives of his family and loved ones forever and our thoughts remain with them. We hope that this plea provides them with a degree of closure to help them move on with their lives"
