THESE are just some of the eye-catching entries in our Gwent Young Artist competition.

Judging will take place on Monday, January 5, 2015, by a panel including a representative from the University of South Wales, Project Space, sponsors Western Power Distribution and the Argus.

The shortlisted entries will then be exhibited at Project Space in Newport until the end of January.

Successful candidates to be included in the exhibition will be contacted to let them know.

This is the fourth year of our annual competition.

The University of South Wales will offer this year’s overall winner the chance to attend an art masterclass at the university.

A special presentation ceremony will be held during the final week of the exhibition, during which the winners will be announced.

There are three age categories: eight and under, nine to12, and 13 to 18. There will be a winner and runner-up in each age category, and an overall winner, who will be named the South Wales Argus Young Gwent Artist of the Year.

Age group winners will each receive £75, runners-up receive £25 and both receive £175 for their school’s art department.

The overall winner will win a trophy that has been specially-created trophy by the University of South Wales plus a cash prize of £400 as well as the university art masterclass.

Their school will also receive £275 for their art department.

The prize money is courtesy of our main sponsor Western Power.
