BETTWS residents are being warned to lock their vehicles after a spate of thefts from vehicles.

This warning comes after a recent rise in thefts from vehicles in the Bettws, Allt-yr-yn and Malpas areas, with 14 crimes reported in the last two days. Out of the 14 crimes reported, 9 of those were because the vehicles had been left insecure.

Items stolen include laptops, iPods, handbags, satnavs, keys and even a pram.

Officers are urging all residents to make sure that they remove any valuables from view. Sgt Adrian Davies said, ‘There has been an increase in thefts from vehicles in the area, however the large majority of these were as a result of the vehicles not being locked.

This is like an early Christmas present for thieves! We really are urging residents to check and double check their vehicles when they leave them and to make sure everything is hidden from view or hidden in the boot.’ Officers are available to give crime prevention advice if needed to any resident.
