ONE lane of Cardiff Road in Newport has closed to allow work to demolish part of a railway bridge.
The disused section of the bridge near MacDonalds will be dismantled on Christmas Day as part of the future electrification of the line between London and South Wales.
Another crossing, the Trowbridge Road footbridge, which was closed to vehicles in 2000, will also be demolished on the 25th. The replacement for the footbridge will be raised slightly to accommodate power lines for electric services.
