GWENT Police has warned that it intends to take action against anyone acting anti-socially at a car cruise organised in Cwmbran this evening.

On its Facebook page, Gwent Police warned that officers have heard that a ‘Christmas cruise’ has been organised in the Cwmbran area.

A statement posted on the social media page read: “Gwent Police does not support or condone this event and would urge those thinking of attending not to do so.
“We will have patrols in place and will take action against anyone behaving in an anti-social manner.”

But the post has caused uproar online with over 650 people indicating that they will be attending the cruise, which is scheduled to start at 7pm at Springvale Industrial Estate, Cwmbran.

The first cruise organised in Cwmbran on the Cwmbran Cruise social media page attracted over 500 cars.

Writing on the Gwent Police page following its post, cruise organiser Callum Dash, said he has been “very cooperative” with the police force.

He aso called the post “childish” and "embarrassing” before thanking those who have supported him, adding: “I’ll show Gwent Police what the cruise culture can really do”.

Several others posted that the event is not an anti-social one.

Gareth Nevins wrote: “We spend endless amounts on cars that are legal and we take pride in them and don't risk damaging them.

“I'm part of an owners club and not only do we take pride in our cars we take pride in making sure our club keeps a good image and reputation. We keep control of our members and respect the laws.”

Michelle Schumacher called for Gwent Police to head down to the event and monitor the situation, before “going in all guns blazing. She added: “It's a crowd of people indulging in something they enjoy”.
