A NEWPORT fundraiser brought Christmas cheer to children in hospital by bringing gifts from them to pick out.

Mark Fredrickson visited the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff with British super featherweight champion Gary Buckland and fellow Newport fundraiser Julie Murphy.

They had together collected £1,250 worth of toys and gifts.

Mr Fredrickson, of Greene Close, has been attending the children’s cancer wards at the hospital which is run by the LATCH charity for four years after being touched after a friend lost their own child to the disease.

He said of Mr Buckland attending the hospital with him: “I sent him a Facebook message about three years ago explaining what I do and we met up and he comes with me.

“I’ve built up a good rapport with the nurses there over the years.”

Children were able to venture into the ward’s play room from their beds to pick toys they wanted, which included a PlayStation 4 and about 30 board games, and were paid for by donations made over the last year.

And Mr Fredrickson said he is planning another festival in Spytty Park with Demi Holborne, DJ Alkemy, Lewis Morgan and Tiny Skitz starring. One last summer raised about £1,500.
