THE finishing touches have been added to a 3D model of medieval Newport on display at the University of South Wales.
The Friends of the Newport Ship patron Charles Ferris and model maker Rubin Eynon added brass plaques to the diorama to inform visitors that the scene represents the city in 1470.
The view of the bustling town was constructed with the expert help and guidance of Bob Trett, former curator of the Newport Museum, and artist Anne Leaver.
The Civic Society secured £8,100 funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund for the diorama to take shape after the Friends of the Newport Ship suggested the idea.
A spokeswoman for the group said: “We are particularly proud that the ship is included in the diorama, seen docked in the awaiting repairs.
“It clearly demonstrates how huge she was in comparison to the nearby buildings, dwarfed by her superstructure.”
