A YOUNG person, reportedly drunk, has been rescued from the River Usk this evening.
He was rescued by a rescue boat from Malpas fire station and was taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital by ambulance as a precaution at around 8.05pm.
A spokesman for the Welsh Ambulance Service said they received a report of an intoxicated youth being in the water by George Street Furnishers in Newport at around 7.10pm.
Crews from Maindee and Duffryn, the police, and the Chepstow Coastguard team also attended.
A spokesman for Gwent Police said they are not treating it as a suspicious incident.
