A MAN alleged to have led one of London's largest criminal gangs before being moved to Newport pleaded guilty to a robbery at the city's crown court yesterday.

Joland Giwa, of York Place, Newport, admitted taking part in a robbery on November 17 last year.

The 25-year-old appeared in custody via video link at Newport Crown Court before Judge Philip Richards.

Few details of the offensive were given yesterday, but Judge Richards warned him "a prison sentence was inevitable" as he remanded him in custody to March 16.

The Argus previously reported Giwa was alleged to have been the general of Croydon’s largest criminal gang, Don’t Say Nothing.

He had stayed in immigration detention for more than four years after completing a 27-month prison term for two robbery convictions when he was relocated to Newport following a failed deportation attempt by the Home Office.
