Caught without TV fee

MORE than 2,600 Gwent people were caught not paying their TV licence fee in the first nine months of last year.

TV Licensing figures reveal that 1,311 were caught in Newport, 264 were caught in Ebbw Vale, 366 were caught in Cwmbran, 208 were caught in Abertillery and 193 were caught in Blackwood.

Offenders face fines of up to £1,000 for not paying their licence. A colour TV licence costs £131.50 and a black and white TV licence is £44. From April 1, the cost of a colour TV licence is expected to rise to £135.50 and go up to £45.50 for a black and white licence.

Ally Forbes, of TV Licensing in Wales, said: "There is really no excuse for breaking the law."
